Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) was launched nationwide in October 1981 as a way to connect and unite individuals and organizations working on domestic violence issues while raising awareness for those issues.
In 2022, HSCADV partnered with the Hawaiʻi State Public Library System to promote the year’s theme, #Every1KnowsSome1. Each library in the state showcased books that address domestic violence.

Men’s March Against Violence (Oʻahu)
Date: Thursday, October 3 at 11:30am

The Men’s March Against Violence is an annual event to engage men as allies in standing together against domestic violence. Gathering will start at 11:30am, followed by the march at 12:00pm, then the rally at 12:45pm.

Domestic violence is the most underreported crime in our nation and is rooted in power and control. This training aims to help frontline advocates and their agencies be better equipped to work with victims and their families in providing safety and support. The thought of working with domestic violence offenders may seem intimidating and discouraging as thoughts of whether they can change race through our minds. Yet, if we do not work with the root of the problem, how will the problem be resolved? The problem will grow, and more victims will be exponentially created as the legacy of violence passes on to the children.
Hence, this training is designed to help you work with the offenders, the root of the problem, so that we ultimately help their families be safe. This training will help you to understand offenders: how they think and behave, how to work with them, and what goals we want to achieve with them.
